Silly. Loving. Active. United. Happy. Those are the words Monica used to describe her family, and yep, that pretty much sums them up! I might also add hilarious, kind, adventurous, and fun. Their family session was one of my favorites {and possibly the most risky} yet! When Monica told me that she was up for shooting in a more urban location, I was giddy. You see, I am always on the hunt for new locations to shoot at and I had a small trail mapped out for that one family who was willing to try something a little different. However, some of the locations from my scouting list proved to be a little…well…let’s just say they were not exactly what I originally expected. The abandoned warehouse with lots of character was great for outdoor photographs, but turned out to be not so abandoned and the interior was somewhat reminiscent of a set from the movie SAW {we were just waiting for the lights to go out and that little tricycle to roll out of the darkness}. The artsy area we wandered over to proved to be full of questionable people, wearing questionable outfits, at 9 in the morning. We briskly returned to the car… And the train track location we shot at, although very cool {and slightly active}, was right next to a rickety old house that was transplanted into the middle of a vacant lot, very ‘Wizard of OZ’ like. I kept looking for striped socks curled up under the porch, but wouldn’t dare get close enough to see. With permission, I am sure that Caden {the younger brother} would have gladly inspected it. Oh, boys.
Needless to say, we had quite the adventure that Saturday morning, but we also had a lot of fun. I have never laughed so hard for so long at one session, and I look forward to the time when we can do it all again {minus the crazy encounters}. Frederick family, you are awesome. Totally. Awesome.
Gorgeous family.
An instant favorite.
I LOVE these shots — what better way to capture the true experience of raising teenage boys?
Monica, Bennie Davy, Cameron, Caden, and Sarah — thank you for going along with our interesting adventure! I walked away with a hundred belly laughs, a new outlook on location scouting, and “Bennie and the Jets” stuck in my head. It was a joy meeting you and I hope you love your sneak peek!

And that one of Sarah right in the middle of a laugh–WOW! You are awesome at what you do and we really did have fun with you. Thanks for making us feel so comfortable! Can’t wait til’ next time!
