1. Going to the Market. Last week, my sis-in-law and I made the hour or so drive down 237 to partake in the Round Top fall antique show. I laugh a little when I say the word ‘antique’ because we certainly do not go for antiques, not in the true sense of the word. We go for bargains on refinished or handmade furniture, or pieces we can redo ourselves; we go to shop the unique artisan tents and booths hosted by creatives from all over, and we can’t leave without rummaging through the junk tents, searching for little treasures — like a vintage farmhouse tin cup and saucer set my SIL picked up for her little girl, or the wooden flower boxes I got for $2. The deals and steals are my favorite part about ‘antiquing’, not the 200 year old armoire from France that will set me back $5000…ya they have those there too. All in all, we came away with a bit less loot than our spring trip (much to the relief of our husbands), but still ended up with some great items and I plan to make the drive again in April. Luckily, I don’t have to wait that long to treasure hunt again because Houston will be having its own event in just a few short weeks, the Urban Market. I couldn’t go in the spring so I am looking forward to checking it out this year! Anyone else going??
2. Bad, But So Good. I can’t quite recall how Troy and I got into watching it, but let me tell ya, we are hooked. As if we didn’t have enough shows on our record list, ‘Breaking Bad’ is our newest obsession. We had heard all of the buzz surrounding the final episode and AMC happened to be hosting a ‘Breaking Bad’ marathon the week leading up to the finale so we DVRd all of the episodes to see what all of the rave for this show was about. We are suckers for good TV y’all 🙂 Before we knew it, we were using every opportunity to watch and were blasting through the recordings. We are on episode 28 now — not even half way through the series — but we are going strong and hope to find out how it all ends in a week or two. No spoilers, y’all! Anyone else a ‘Breaking Bad’ fan??
3. Class of 2003. It has been 10 years since the hubs and I graduated from high school so a reunion was inevitable. We were shooting Danielle and Ryan’s wedding the weekend of my class reunion, so we went to Troy’s last weekend and let me tell ya, there is nothing quite like a small town football game and a weekend catching up with old friends to make you feel…well…old. I loved reminiscing in the Friday night lights though (we haven’t been to a high school football game in years) and even though it wasn’t my school that we were cheering on, it still felt like home. I remembered back to those crazy days of high school — the carefree attitude, the fast trends that swept over the masses (anyone remember Abercrombie Tees or painted overalls??), and the drama…oh the drama. Within 15 minutes of arriving at the football game, we witnessed a girl confronting another girl about calling her sister fat, and another duo who were in a war of words over a boy. Oh to be 16 again…. ha, no thank you! It was really great going back though, even if only to watch Troy re-live the good ol days with his buddies and count our blessings in how far we have come since 2003.
4. High Fives. High five to mother nature and this amazing weather she has brought upon us. I don’t feel as stupid now when I pull out my boots, paint my nails dark purple, or order a pumpkin spice latte. And speaking of pumpkins, I give myself a high five for making part of Bree’s Halloween costume. This year, I can finally stop dressing up the pups and focus on dressing up my kid 🙂 I want to send a high five over to our government too, for ending the government shutdown — oh wait, that hasn’t happened yet. Grrrr. High five to we the people for putting up with all of this nonsense… And my last (and perhaps the biggest) high five goes to Bree, and any baby who can put themselves back to sleep after waking up. I know this isn’t the norm for lots of babies so I am happy to say that I am one of the lucky ones. Bree, my tired body thanks you. High five, girl!
5. Thread Tunes. I am a big fan of Sara Bareilles and lately her song Brave has been like an anthem. It’s so upbeat and uplifting, and the video makes me smile big (dude dancing in the library is friggin awesome!). Give it a listen while checking out the video, and take a bit of inspiration from the song today — be brave 🙂
Have a super day!
